How it works

Two discounts, one price – every gold coin on Flipkart, stacked and ranked.

Flipkart lets a coupon and a bank card offer apply on the same order. Neither is large on its own; together, on the right coin, they can take the price below the gold in it. FlipkartGold does that sum for every coin so you can see which ones clear.

What happens

  1. The catalogue is read through the page API Flipkart's own site uses. Every brand in Coins & Bars, then the precious-jewellery stores - chains, bangles, bracelets, pendants, rings - with the live price, MRP, stock and the weight and purity Flipkart lists as specs. Silver, gold-plated and stone-set pieces, and anything whose gold weight is not stated, are left out - a piece that cannot be weighed cannot be valued.
  2. The bank offers are read from a product page, once. Each offer's terms are read in full: offers that need an EMI, and offers whose terms exclude gold, are dropped; the banks whose plain-swipe discount is left go in the Bank offer menu, the one that saves the most on a typical piece first. Outside a sale Flipkart usually has no bank offer on gold, and the menu says so.
  3. The coupon comes first, the card second.
    Gold coin, 1 g 24K listed ₹16,352 − coupon ₹500 off −₹500 − bank HDFC 10% ≤ ₹1.5k −₹1,500 = you pay ₹14,352 12.2% off worth 1 g × ₹15,486 × 0.97 ₹15,021 difference +₹669
The bank's percentage is taken on the price after the coupon, up to its rupee cap; "additional" tiers a bank offers on bigger orders are added when the order clears them. A coupon limited to jewellery, or to a list of products, shows "n/a" on the rows it cannot touch.
  4. Every piece is valued against a reference rate. Its weight and purity at the jeweller's rate you pick, less a haircut for what a buyer would actually get. 22K is valued at 91.6% of 24K.
  5. Needs is the number to read. It is the total discount off the listed price that coin needs before it is worth more than you pay. Pick a coupon and a card and the board marks every coin whose stack beats it – and tells you how far the closest one is short when nothing does.

Questions

What does FlipkartGold stack?
Two discounts Flipkart applies together on a gold order: a coupon applied at checkout, and the bank offer for a card on the payment page. The coupon comes off the listed price first; the bank's percentage is then taken on what is left, up to the offer's rupee cap. FlipkartGold shows each step and the total so you can see what you actually pay.
Why are EMI offers not shown?
Many of Flipkart's bank offers apply only if the order is converted to EMI, which carries its own cost and terms, and Flipkart's always-on card cashbacks (Flipkart Axis, Flipkart SBI) exclude gold in their terms. FlipkartGold shows only plain-swipe offers whose terms allow gold, so the price on the board is one you can pay in full.
Why is a 10% card offer worth less than 10% on the board?
Because every bank offer is capped in rupees. 10% up to ₹1,500 is the full 10% on a ₹15,000 coin but under 2% on a ₹85,000 bar. FlipkartGold works the saving out per coin and shows the rupee amount, so a heavier coin is never flattered by a headline percentage.
How does FlipkartGold rank the gold coins?
Each coin's price after the coupon and the card discount is compared with the value of the gold in it, from its weight and purity at the reference gold rate you choose. You see what you pay, the total discount the coin would need to break even, and the difference. Coins that clear with your stack are marked. Every coin stays on the list; nothing is hidden.
Which gold coin brands on Flipkart does it cover?
Every brand in Flipkart's Coins & Bars category, read through the same page API Flipkart's own site uses, at each sweep - including MMTC-PAMP, Bangalore Refinery, Aspect Bullion, Joyalukkas, P. N. Gadgil, Bhima, Kalamandir, CASAJOYA, RSBL and Euphoria - plus the 22K chains, bangles, bracelets, pendants and rings the same jewellers and PC Chandra list under Precious Jewellery. Plain coins and bars from 1 g to 10 g are shown, in 22K and 24K, and jewellery up to 40 g; silver, plated and stone-set pieces are left out.
Where does the gold rate come from?
From Karat Board, which publishes the daily 22K and 24K rates of twelve Indian jewellers. Kalyan Jewellers' 24K rate is the default reference; you can switch to any other jeweller or set a haircut for what a buyer would actually get on resale.
Is this advice?
No. It is data points: prices, offers and a rate, with the arithmetic done. Offers change, coupons end, stock moves. Check the product page before you buy.
